You maybe wouldn’t guess from my work that I started out photographing surgeries for medical journals. I still take the same scientific approach to my subjects, only now it’s to show new ways of seeing the guts of a city, and not a person.
Born in 1963 and raised in Paderborn, Germany, he lived in Bavaria before moving to Berlin 13 years ago. His passion for photography began at age 20 during his alternative military service post at a hospital where the chief physician selected him to take pictures of surgeries for his medical publications. His experience there has profoundly influenced his photography to this day. Michael took the same approach, capturing the essence and beauty of a scene in a neutral and objective manner. Only today his subjects are urban landscapes and spaces with geometric compositions, often shown through unusual perspectives. His primary focus is Berlin, although his portfolio extends to cities and destinations throughout Europe and Asia.
